Services: Brigantia Place provides safe, temporary shelter and basic needs requirements to women and children in crisis.

Brigantia Place offers five basic programs, briefly described below:

  • The Crisis Intervention Program - it offers residential support to women in need through crisis counselling, and referrals to critical community supports.

  • The Family Support Program - supports the residents to develop and/or maintain effective parenting skills and strategies utilizing various techniques. The program also provides liaison support with community organizations, such as Child and Family Services.

  • The Outreach Program - works with both residents who have transitioned into the catchment area and Outreach clients who have never been residents. Presentations and other preventive education venues are also promoted via this program.

  • The Volunteer Program - boasts several exciting and fulfilling volunteer opportunities for students needing field experience or for generous community members who wish to contribute.

  • The School - is an on-site school that accommodates children from K - Grade 9 within the Alberta Learning Curriculum.

Please visit our website for more details on all of these programs. It has been more than 20 years since the shelter first opened its doors in Camrose back in 1985, and since that time, financial support from the Provincial Government has gradually increased, such that we are now fully capable of operating 15 of the 22 beds in the Shelter. The costs to maintain the remaining 7 beds continues to be a challenge for the Shelter. And while we do receive generous donations from the Camrose Community and surrounding areas, there is the ongoing struggle to raise enough funds for all of our programs.

So, if you feel disposed to helping Brigantia Place to continue its necessary and important work, you may send your tax deductible donations to the shelter at the above address.

Our outreach workers and volunteers spend a lot of time interacting with youth on the streets of Camrose and at various community events.

The Open Door general counseling program serves individuals and families who need counseling services, but who do not have the financial resources to acquire services on a private basis. The counseling program seeks to remove barriers of time, space, as well as priority waiting lists existing in our community.

The Positive Personal Futures (PPF) program operated by the Open Door provides employability and life skills development opportunities for youth. Participants develop financial literacy skills and work to build contacts within the community. The PPF program aims to provide the skills necessary to live independently and maintain employment.
