Waste Collection

Contract
Waste collection is handled in accordance to the Waste Collection By-law.
In general, refuse from single-family dwellings, duplexes, and four-plexes is collected by a private contractor selected by the City of Camrose. Contracts for
residential waste collection are tendered every five years. The current contracted company, Waste Services Inc., will be serving Camrose until March of 2010.
Waste Services Inc. is based out of Sherwood Park.
Residential Refuse Collection Schedule
When viewing the current schedule, remember that collection routes can change to provide better service.
The best way to confirm your collection day is by contacting the contractor.
Residential Waste Collection Schedule
- Where should my refuse be, and at what time, on collection day?
All refuse should be ready for collection by 7:45 a.m. on the morning of your collection day. The refuse should be placed as close as possible to the
back or side lane of your property, but should not obstruct use of the lane. If you do not have a back or side lane, then the refuse should be placed
close to the front of your property, but not in a way that it obstructs the sidewalk. All empty trash cans must be removed from the location of
collection by the end of the day.
- Can I leave my trash cans out all the time?
If you wish to leave your trash cans at the collection spot permanently you must build a stand or enclosure for the container and/or bags. The
following pictures show properly constructed trash enclosures.
- What happens if I do not handle my refuse properly?
To maintain the sanitation and safety of the refuse collection process, the City has established certain requirements for the handling of refuse.
The contractor has also established some requirements that serve the same purpose. When any of these requirements have not been met, the contractor
has no obligation to collect your refuse. To ensure that your refuse is collected, make sure that:
- The refuse is bundled or tied properly.
- The refuse is contained properly.
- The trash can is placed properly.
- The refuse and container do not exceed weight (20kg) or length (1m) limits.
- There are no liquids amongst the refuse.
- The refuse is accessible.
- Your refuse complies with the list of restrictions that can be found in the Waste Collection By-law, by contacting the contractor or the City of Camrose.
Commercial and Industrial Refuse Collection
Although the City of Camrose does not handle refuse collection from businesses, industries, institutions, mobile home parks, or multi-family
buildings greater than four-plexes, it does regulate their trash-disposal methods. Trash collection for these premises must comply with the
requirements set by the City of Camrose as detailed in the Waste Collection By-law.
